Description

This dataset concerns the distribution of two species Pericopsis elata and Pterocarpus erinaceus in Côte d'Ivoire which trade must be effectively regulated and controlled.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,539 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

The main objective of the National Flora Center (CNF) is to carry out all botanical studies in Côte d'Ivoire. Faced to the many challenges of remobilization of actors and data, the CNF, in 2016, as part of a consortium, received a BID funding (BID-AF2015-0025-NAC) to mobilize, digitalize and publish several datasets on the GBIF portal (https://www.gbif.org/search?q=Côte d'Ivoire). Based on the results obtained and surveys conducted during the previous project, the CNF, through this new call for projects, proposes to increase the biodiversity data available for Côte d'Ivoire. Thus, Ivorian universities and institutions such as the UFR of Biological Sciences of the Universities Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Pelefero Gon Coulibaly, the Ministry of Environment through its Biodiversity and IPBES focal points will contribute to the data to be mobilized. Apart from plants, the data will also cover other groups of organisms that are very poorly represented on the GBIF Côte d'Ivoire portal such as fungi, bacteria and viruses and fauna. Thus, this project will contribute to the national mobilization of biodiversity data to support decisions supporting sustainable development in Côte d'Ivoire. Specifically, it will first mobilize relevant biodiversity data for decision-making in support of sustainable development, and then use and extend best practices for the mobilization and digitization of other biodiversity data. The third step is to apply biodiversity data to support decision-making and research. Finally, in a fourth step develop sustainable national, regional or thematic networks to support data sharing and reuse.

Title Mobilisation and strengthening of biodiversity data for conservation to support sustainable development in Côte d'Ivoire
Identifier BID-AF2020-128-NAC
Funding Global Biodiversity Information Facility
Study Area Description Côte d'voire
Design Description The implementation of this project took place in 4 stages. Initially, (1) the mobilization of other relevant data on biodiversity for decision-making. A start-up workshop was organized to explain the objectives and the expected results. A formal framework for collaboration and agreements with the data holders has been signed. The capacities of structures has been strengthened in terms of equipment, training, mobilizing and digitizing data. The second stage was devoted to (2) the extension of good practices in mobilizing and digitizing data on biodiversity to other institutional partners. Biological data was collected, digitalized, and published on the GBIF and CHM portals. Throughout the project, the CNF monitored partners' data mobilization and digitization activities and ensured the drafting of interim and final reports. In the third step, (3) it has been about applying biodiversity data to support decision making and research. Awareness-raising workshops on how to take Biodiversity data into account to support decision-making and research was carried out for administrative and political staff, researchers, and students. Biological species with special status (rare, threatened, endemic) for which priority conservation emphasis must be placed are identified for their sustainable management. The last stage of the project was devoted to (4) development of sustainable national, regional, and thematic networks to support the sharing and reuse of biological data. Standard thematic platforms (CHM, GBIF, IPBES) was set up to mobilize biological data and consider Biodiversity data to support decision-making and research. The structures had seen their capacities strengthened on the requirements for mobilizing data on biodiversity.

Sampling Methods

Mobilization of national biodiversity data from scientific publications (articles, dissertations, reports).

Study Extent Different regions and agroecosystems in Côte d'Ivoire
Quality Control After data entry, a taxonomic correction is made using the GBIF API software. For the geolocation of species, the Geolocate software was used to determine the geographical coordinates.
